3 Questions People Are Afraid to Ask Their Realtor

by Laci Barnard

There are a few questions I hear all the time, usually right after someone lowers their voice and says, “This might be a dumb question…”

It never is. It’s just one people feel weird asking because real estate feels big and expensive and no one wants to sound like they don’t know what their talking about so they just don’t ask! Big mistake.
Here are three questions people ask me constantly, even if they pretend they weren’t thinking about them first.

The first one is about timing.
“Is this actually a terrible time to buy or sell, or does it just feel like it?”

Totally fair question. The market has been a lot over the last few years. Between loud headlines, higher interest rates, and everyone’s cousin getting licensed between 2021-2023 it’s just been A LOT. Right now, things feel calmer. Not boring, just calmer. Buyers have options again. Sellers need a plan again. So to answer the question… It’s never a terrible time. Everything depends on your life and your circumstance. Bottom line, people buy and sell real estate every single day!

The second question is about negotiating.
“Are people really negotiating right now, or is that just something agents say to make us feel better?”

Negotiation is back for many buyers, but it’s not a free for all across the board. Homes that are priced right and show well are still moving. Others are sitting longer and needing adjustments. The days of throwing out any number and seeing what sticks are mostly gone. Which, honestly, is probably healthier for everyone involved.

The third question usually comes with a deep breath.
“What if I make the wrong move?”

This one gets people stuck. No one wants to look back and think, “Well that was a mistake.” What I tell clients is this. There’s no perfect move, only informed ones. When you understand your options, the numbers, and the trade offs, the fear quiets down a lot. And it’s a house, not a life sentence. You are allowed to change your mind.

If you’ve been sitting on questions but didn’t want to ask them out loud, consider this your official permission slip and frankly your invitation.

I sit on the other side of this inbox daily, hit me up! I’ll love the opportunity to have a conversation.
